Master in Occupational Health & Safety

Introduction This program is designed to meet the needs of those people with a degree (or equivalent qualification) and relevant work experience who wish to develop a managerial career in occupational health and safety. The Master programme provides students with an opportunity to develop their problem solving skills, attributes and attitudes essential for self development, managerial commitment, and international best practice in the major disciplines of occupational health and safety.

Objectives The Master programme aims to provide managers of occupational health and safety operations within organisations or industries, and those wishing to pursue a career in this field, with advanced knowledge and skills in the prevention of disease and injury. Upon completion of this programme, participants are able to

• demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in prevention of occupational injury and disease

• specialise and undertake research in safety management, safety technology, occupational health, hygiene, occupational medicine or other related areas

• use their specialized disciplines within the conceptual framework in order that the principles of occupational health and safety can be applied in practical situations

• consider safety as an integral part of all activities including the design stage.

• use their skills in the implementation of relevant legislation and in the field of industrial relations.

•use their ability to convince people of the need for a concerted effort to prevent occupational accidents and disease.

Who Should Attend Those people with a degree or equivalent qualification and at least two years of relevant work experience who wish to develop a managerial career in occupational health and safety.

ENTRY ELIGIBILITY Candidates are required to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised university or institution of equivalent standing. In special circumstances, applicants holding other qualifications and with a minimum of five years full-time relevant work experience may be granted admission to the program by the Program Director.

DURATION The Master of Logistics and Operations Management may be completed over 12 to 18 months of part-time study and is offered on a flexible, modular basis.
